Development of neutron scattering kernels for cold neutron reflector materials

چکیده

The newest neutron scattering applications are highly intensity-limited techniques that demand reducing the losses between source and detectors. In addition, nuclear industry demands more accurate data procedures for design optimization of advanced fission reactors, especially treatment fuel moderator materials. To meet these demands, it is necessary to improve existing calculation tools, through generation better models describe interaction neutrons with systems interest. Neutron Physics Department at Centro Atomico Bariloche (CNEA, Argentina) has been developing over time new slow materials, produce kernels cross section in thermal cold energy region. Besides studies carried out on moderators, we have recently begun looking materials could serve as efficient reflectors those ranges. this work present results transmission experiments diamond nanopowder magnesium hydride, simultaneously VESUVIO spectrometer (ISIS, UK), compare them newly generated cross-section libraries.

Neutron scattering—The key characterization tool for nanostructured magnetic materials

The novel properties of materials produced using nanoscale manufacturing processes often arise from interactions across interfaces between dissimilar materials. Thus, to characterize the structure and magnetism of nanoscale materials demands tools with interface specificity. Neutron scattering has long been known to provide unique and quantitative information about nuclear and magnetic structur...

A review on neutron shielding performance of nano-composite materials

Neutron sources employed in different applications in both medicine and industry. Due to the harmful effects of neutron particles on living organisms, radiation shields have played a vital role in radiation protection against neutrons. In recent decade, numerous investigations conducted on the design and fabrication of nanocomposites as more efficient shielding materials against fast and therma...

Neutron scattering studies of disordered carbon anode materials

Carbon-based anodes show many promising properties in lithium-ion rechargeable batteries. So-called ‘disordered carbons’ are characterized by a substantial amount of residual hydrogen, and exhibit large Li uptake capacities. We have employed a variety of neutron scattering techniques, coupled with computer simulations, to study the composition, local atomic structure, and vibrational dynamics o...

Small-angle neutron scattering correlation functions of bulk magnetic materials

On the basis of the continuum theory of micromagnetics, the correlation function of the spin-misalignment small-angle neutron scattering cross section of bulk ferromagnets (e.g. elemental polycrystalline ferromagnets, soft and hard magnetic nanocomposites, nanoporous ferromagnets, or magnetic steels) is computed. For such materials, the spin disorder which is related to spatial variations in th...

Neutron scattering studies of nanomagnetism and artificially structured materials

Nanostructured magnetic materials are intensively investigated due to their unusual properties and promise for possible applications. The key issue for these materials is to understand the limits between their physical properties (transport, magnetism, mechanical, etc.) and their chemical–physical structure. In principle, a detailed knowledge of the chemical and physical structures allows calcu...
